Term Horse 'breaking'

I have had someone come up to me and tell me to stop using the term 'horse breaking'.

Why?  Because apparently when you say you broke in a horse, or that your horse is a breaker or you broke them in or you do horse breaking, the majority (90%) of people automatically assume that you break a horses spirit.   They commented this on my Instagram saying they only told me this so I didn't get hate comments.
But to be honest, none of my followers even thought I ment that by using the term 'breaking'.  I was informed that I should use the term 'starting under saddle' instead.
Quite frankly, I'm not going to change what I Say,  and I'm going to give reasons why below....

1.  I asked like 10 people and they all said they don't think that.  So basicaly he facts that 90% of people think you abuse the horse is wrong.

2. What century are you in? 😂   Are you an 19th century cowboy?  The only time I've heard the term 'breaking' used in that way was in Spirit, Stallion of the Cinnamon.

3. 'Starting under saddle' means they are just STARTING.  Si what do you call a broke horse in that way? 'Finished under saddle?'

4.  By no means am I a 'horse breaker'.  I'm not even a 'horse trainer'.    I don't do anything like this professionaly, But yes, I do have to train my horses as I can't afford to by the well trained ones.  I have broken in CLEO.  Now I am in the proccess of training her.

5. Training is what you do after they have been broken,  teaching them more stuff.  Breaking in is teaching them to accept gear, a rider, saddle, bit.  Teaching them to go left right stop go.  The rest is training.

6. A word, a labelle shouldn't define you.  Yes, breaking a horse in could mean breaking there spirit, but majority of the time it means breaking them in to saddle.  In a humane way, that doesn't involve breaking their spirit.

7. What do you call a recently started horse if you can't call it a breaker? Or green broke?

It doesn't make any sense how it's "easier to just say 'training under saddle' " than to say breaking.
It's just personal preference.  If I want to say breaking I can.  If you want to say starting under saddle you can.

BUT DO NOT EVER TELL ME I CANT DO SOMETHING JUST BECAUSE ITS NOT HOW YOU DO IT.

I'm not going to change what I say.  If any of you doubt my reasoning, and still believe I break their spirit just cos I say breaking, check my Instagram @little_stock_horses

Or, email me on littlestockhorses@gmail.com

I will be more than happy to have a civil discussion with you if you like.

Melanie
